NEFBA’s Opportunity Zone Development Panel

Managing Partner Charles B. Jimerson will moderate the Opportunity Zone Development Panel event hosted by NEFBA on Thursday, February 11. Walk through the complex world of Opportunity Zone Investments, which are, perhaps, the greatest tax incentive in American History, offering tremendous potential for builders, developers and realtors.

What is an Opportunity Zone?
Opportunity Zones are designated census tracts where qualifying capital investments made into properties located within the zone can potentially qualify for unbelievable tax benefits. Any taxpaper (individual or business) who sells an asset with an existing capital gain, and reinvests capital equaling their capital gain into Opportunity Zone property, defers paying tax on their capital gain until December 31, 2026, and reduces their tax payment by 10%. Most significantly, Opportunity Zone investments held for ten years can be sold 100% tax-free, provided requirements are met.
