Overview
Gustavo “Gus” Sardina is a trademark attorney, business lawyer, and litigator. His practice centers on trademark strategy and disputes, helping clients protect and enforce their brands in crowded, brand-driven industries where consumer perception, market power, and contractual relationships collide. He has represented domestic and multinational clients across retail, consumer products, manufacturing, and international trade, including trademark portfolios and disputes spanning more than 60 countries.
A litigation background shapes how Gus evaluates trademark decisions, with an eye toward what holds up under pressure, not just what looks good on paper. His litigation practice includes trial and appellate work in state and federal courts, proceedings before the USPTO’s Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, and mediation and pre-suit resolution. Beyond trademark, Gus handles complex commercial litigation for small and medium-sized businesses, including contract claims and real estate disputes. He frequently represents clients in heavily regulated industries such as tobacco and international trade, where disputes intersect with government oversight and brand protection and often involve cross-border claims and complex jurisdictional issues.
Gus also maintains an active transactional practice. He provides trademark clearance opinions and files and prosecutes trademark applications before the USPTO. He assists clients with business formation, shareholder and operating agreements, and real estate and commercial transactions, advising businesses across their full life cycle, from formation to exit.
Before joining Jimerson Birr, Gus practiced in Miami, where he led business litigation matters involving multimillion-dollar disputes, cross-border claims, and IP enforcement. He also served as in-house counsel to a real estate holding company managing approximately one million square feet of grocery-anchored commercial properties, an experience that permanently changed how he evaluates legal risk from an operator’s perspective.
Gus is admitted to practice in Florida and Georgia. Fluent in Spanish, he often works with bilingual teams and cross-border clients. He lives in Valdosta, Georgia with his wife and two young children, and serves on the board of the South Central Georgia chapter of the American Red Cross. Outside of work, Gus enjoys being outdoors, the occasional overnight camping trip, and spending time with his family.
