Colin Thakkar serves as Special Counsel at Jimerson Birr, representing employers in the areas of labor and employment law, as well as other business-related legal issues.
Mr. Thakkar has over 15 years of experience representing and counseling employers in the public and private sector on labor and employment legal issues. Mr. Thakkar represents employers in litigation and arbitration proceedings involving trade secrets, restrictive covenant and other non-compete agreements, alleged wage and hour violations, alleged employment discrimination based on race, sex, age, religion, and other protected categories, and alleged unlawful retaliation. Mr. Thakkar also assists employers by handling administrative proceedings such as federal, state and local charges of discrimination, drafting employee handbooks and policy manuals, and advising employers on how to resolve employment issues without the necessity of litigation.
In addition to his experience in employment law, Mr. Thakkar has significant experience in traditional labor law, assisting employers in union elections and collective bargaining, defending against grievances and unfair labor practice charges, and representing employers in labor arbitrations.
Mr. Thakkar has presented and is available to present on a broad range of employment-related legal topics, such as complying with wage and hour and anti-discrimination laws, as well as effectively resolving employee complaints of unlawful activity. He also writes extensively on issues involving the protection of trade secrets, the enforcement of non-compete agreements, and compliance with various employment-related legal issues.
