Overview

Relentless preparation, unyielding drive. This is the engine behind Sam Woods’s approach to the practice of law. As an Attorney with Jimerson Birr, Sam’s competitive edge and refusal to settle for anything less than thorough preparation give clients confidence at every stage of a dispute. Prior to joining Jimerson Birr as an Attorney, Sam earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Wake Forest University School of Law. As a law student, he was a member of the Wake Forest Moot Court Board where he was selected to compete in the Billings, Exum & Frye National Moot Court Competition. Sam continued to put his oral advocacy skills to use in multiple trial advocacy competitions, receiving the honor of being invited to the Wake Forest Trial Bar for his accomplishments. Additionally, Sam served as a Teaching Assistant at Wake Forest where he supported classroom instruction and assisted new students with their coursework.

Outside of the classroom, Sam served as a founding member and Communications Chair of the Artificial Intelligence in Law Society and was elected as a member and later the Student Solicitor of the Wake Forest Honor Council. As Student Solicitor, Sam was entrusted with upholding the Wake Forest Law Honor Code and worked closely with the administration of Wake Forest Law to investigate matters and recommend courses of action to ensure compliance with the honor code.

Sam spent his first summer of law school as a Legal Intern for both the Iredell County District Attorney’s Office and the Forsyth County Public Defender’s Office. Seeing both sides of the criminal court system allowed Sam to explore his passion for litigation by spending countless hours in the court room while also giving him a unique perspective he takes into every matter today.

Sam was born and raised in Jacksonville and attended the University of Central Florida on a full-tuition scholarship for his undergraduate studies through the Bright Futures Program in Florida. Sam graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice in December 2021.

Sam is the proud parent of his two goldfish who he rescued from the county fair: Raven and Robin. In his free time, Sam enjoys staying active including playing golf, disc golf, pickleball, and volleyball. Additionally, Sam is an avid fan of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Arsenal FC.
